I was born and raised in Iowa, and came to know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior at the age of 14. God surrounded me with Christian friends in high school that challenged me and helped shape my relationship with Jesus. I was blessed with a scholarship to Southeast Missouri State University, where I immediately became involved with the Baptist Student Union. At the BSU my faith was further challenged as God led me to opportunities to minister to other students by leading Bible studies and also by serving as part of the BSU leadership team.
During my sophomore year at Southeast, I met Joni Hutton at the BSU. Joni was a freshman from Edwardsville, Illinois, and we became friends quickly. Over the next few years, our friendship developed into more, and in 1998, we were married. During our years of marriage, God has allowed us to be involved with church plants, college Bible studies, and small group ministry. He has also blessed us with five children: Jimmy (born 2001), Nate (2002), Truett (2004), Abe (2007) and Delaney Jo (2009).
We came to CBC from Jeffersonville, Indiana, where we lived for over 4 years. Prior to that, we lived in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Before coming to CBC, I worked at Boeing, Rubbermaid, and Clarke American. I have also served as Student Ministry Intern at Oak Park Baptist Church in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and studied at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. We are excited about what God is doing here at Chatham Baptist Church, and there is nowhere else we would rather be. I desire for my life to reflect what Paul says in Acts 20:24 - "I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God."
