Murphysboro, Illinois and the Elm Street Baptist Church were the primary locations of my growth and development. Born on Easter Sunday, April 18, 1954 I was raised in the church from birth. I committed my life to Christ in November of 1962 and in April of 1975 God called me to serve in pastoral ministry. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Southwest Baptist College in 1977, my Masters of Divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1980 and my Doctor of Ministry degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky in 1990. I have served as pastor of three churches and as the Director of Missions for Capital City Baptist Association previous to coming to Chatham Baptist Church in October of 2008.
My partner in life and ministry is my wife, Marcia. We have five adult children (Dafney, Dirk, Braden, Gavin and Nathan), two daughters in law (Jennifer and Dona) and four grandchildren (Clara, Dorian, Ava, and Phoebe). It is a privilege to serve Chatham Baptist Church and the Chatham region.
Minister of Education and Administration
It has been a joy to serve at Chatham Baptist Church since March of 1991. I served as Minister of Education and Youth at CBC until October of 1998 when I transitioned to be the Minister of Education and Administration.
I was born in McComb, Mississippi on December 27, 1958 and lived in that area until graduating from College. I received a degree in Biblical Studies from Mississippi College in 1980 and graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1983 where I received a Masters of Divinity Degree.
I married Sydney Lanier in April of 1984 and she has been a faithful and supportive wife. We have been blessed with two wonderful children. We love the Chatham community and cherish the relationships we have developed at CBC.
Minister of Preschool Development
I have been the Minister of Preschool Development at CBC since May 26, 2009, after teaching three year olds in the CDC program for 9 years. I have an Associates of Business Degree from Lincoln Land Community College. My husband George and I were married in 1986 and we have four children. Our family joined Chatham Baptist in 1996.
If you have any questions about the Child Development Center or activities for preschoolers please email me at the link below or call me at 483-2471. I look forward to hearing from you.
Interim Administrative Assistant
Minister of Music and Worship
DJ graduated from Millikin University and has been in involved in full time ministry since 2000. He previously served as full time worship/executive pastor at Western Oaks Baptist Church until changing to a bi-vocational role at CBC. He served as interim before being hired as the Minister of Music and Worship for CBC. He also currently works at Lowes as a project specialist and also holds a real estate license. DJ loves his family, wife Alyssa and two children.
Minister of Students and Recreational Outreach
I grew up in Pittsfield Illinois, where I fell in love with Jesus and my wife. At Illinois College, I studied Religion and was involved in programs, such as FCA and served as president of BASIC(Brothers and Sisters in Christ), while also ministering through music at various camps and youth activities. Upon returning home from college in 2007, I began serving at Calvary Baptist in Pittsfield where I spent 8 years serving God, the church, and the community. During my first year serving on staff, I also attended St. Louis Christian College to study more about preaching, evangelism, and dove in to the Bible even more.
Kathy and I were married in the fall of 2010 and have since been blessed with two amazing kids! We are excited to be able to call Chatham our home and can’t wait to see what this place has in store for us and the youth of this community! I firmly believe that teens and young adults are vital to the church of today and look forward to connecting with them in the Chatham area while we grow closer to God as a church family.
